Conceived as the adult locally-centric alternative to the overblown corporatism of Warped Tour, last year’s inaugural Antiwarpt Music Fest drew more than 700 people to downtown St. Petersburg to see a range of local and regional talent perform right up the street from Vinoy Park and The Real Warped.
For their second annual event, Daddy Kool Records and Brokenmold Entertainment are back with a bigger, bolder lineup. The 2011 edition boasts three times as many bands (more than 60, including national acts and the return of Nervous Turkey), double the number of venues (from four to eight), and an extension of the fun with a pre-party at the Shuffleboard Courts on Friday, and an after-party at Ella’s on Sunday. Plus, Antiwarpt no longer competes with Warped — which happens Sunday — so you could potentially do both, if you’re feeling energetic.

Andy Matchett & The Minks are from Orlando, Florida. Just like their hometown, The Minks are known for the good times – a live show that “completely transforms the sphere of interaction” with confetti blasts, leaf blowers and a gigantic parachute that covers the crowd – sure, its a tourist attraction. But, when you really get to know the city and the band, there’s a darker, more cultured undercurrent just beyond the fun that’s absolutely begging to be explored.
Case in point, The Minks’ debut album “The Apple Tree Circle” has been hailed by both local fans and critics alike as “near perfect”, “truly exceptional” and “a universal pleasure”. As much as AM/TM bring the party at shows, the focus in the studio is on seasoned songcraft and lyrical depth. From tongue in cheek “party” tracks like “Too Much Happiness” and “Thoughtsalot” to the emotionally nude ruminations of “Blind Owl” and “(I’ll See You On) Monday”, this band is as truly interesting and sincere as it gets. As you comb through the crowded landscape of bar bands, mainstream douche rock and hipster fashion trends, Andy Matchett & The Minks stand out as a true original. A band equally at home in the glittery limelight and down in the dumps, existing somewhere between indie and mainstream, party and patience, theme park and Winter Park… all in the image of the wonderfully misunderstood city it came from.
Make sure to come watch these guys at The Local 662 at 9:00pm- 9:45pm

Poetry n’ Lotion has kept themselves fairly busy over the past several months – performing Black Sabbath’s Paranoid in its entirety, playing an official SXSW showcase, headlining Tampa Tribune’s Friday Extra Concert Series … All the while, the foursome has been busy building upon their instrumental post-core sound. What began back in 2006 as a whiskey-swilling acoustic trio has evolved into an eclectic four-musician trumpet-led assault of progressive instrumentalism that’s been making big waves in the Gulf Coast music scene.
Their debut LP, Kentucky Monkey (2009/Brokenmold Records), has received stellar reviews from various local publications. The band also earned a few Creative Loafing Best of the Bay awards in 2009 – a Critic’s Choice award for “Best Fusionists” and Reader’s Choice for “Best Instrumentalists.” Shortly after WMNF’s 30th Annual Tropical Heatwave, PnL plans to record their second album, which will showcase the current lineup and their abstract take on dance music. PnL draws upon many different genres; main influences include Sabbath, Zappa, and Coltrane. “PnL fuses all the right elements with seeming ease.” – Leilani Polk, Creative Loafing
Come out and watch these guys at the Emerald at 10:00 – 10:40

Armed with banjos, harmonicas, a suitcase bass drum, and a slew of other instruments in tow, Gainesville-based Greenville Is Melting bring a breath of fresh, folk-induced air to the masses. Since 2007, the band have put their own spin on folk, bluegrass, and punk, ultimately rocking a unique brand of folk-punk with stark, narrative lyrics and a raucous live show.
Their October 2008 debut self-release, “The Measure of A Man’s Worth” was recorded in various bedrooms and bathrooms. The DIY nature of these recordings set some serious groundwork for the band as they honed their aesthetic and took their songs to the road. With extensive southeast touring under their belts, the trio not only found themselves with countless stories and experiences, but an ever growing audience to woo with their earnest fervor and alluring three-part harmonies.

Well then don’t get too stressed out, the Hilton in downtown, St. Petersburg has made room for you!
We teamed up with this great hotel so our guests would have a comfy bed to crash in the night of the fest, so take advantage:
Set and Setting: Looked on by some as only a group of St. Pete locals, these four guys captivate the stage with their psychedelic, post-rock slow droned tunes giving you chills down your spine while watching them completely immersed into their sound. Their mixture of slow melodies accompanied by deep guitar riffs and hard drums they make transitions that constantly turn the tempos, making you question if it is even the same band from the song’s start to finish.
With a similarity to bands such as Explosions in the Sky, M83, Do make Say Think, Mogawi and even bands such as Boris- an audience of any kind would find this band to be nothing but stimulating. The feel of their music is not only grungy but exciting and new, as it should be.
